Windows 8 Release Date, Projected Late 2011

The Windows 8 release date has been shrouded in a cloud of rumors. Most experts expect a late 2011 early 2012 release of the operating system. A recently leaked Windows 8 product cycle chart provides the answers needed to determine the release date of the next Windows OS by Microsoft.

You can take a look at the image here. The chart lists the planning, development and readiness product cycle of Windows 8 and related Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer 8, Windows Live Wave 4, Windows Live Wave 5 and Windows 7. It also lists major events.

Some events and products have already been held / released and it is possible to pinpoint the release date of Windows 8 by making the remaining calculations.

Here is what we know. Forum I and Forum II have been major events, the former held in December 2009, the latter in April 2010. The listing lists four additional event, Forum III to Forum VI. The next two events fall into the development phase of Windows 8, the remaining two into the readiness phase.

Internet Explorer 9 and Windows Live Wave 4 have either been announced with final dates (at least for the beta) or released already.

Forum II was held 4-5 months after Forum I. If we take this approach we can calculate the approximate month of the other four forums. This would mean between 16 to 20 months from April 2010 on which coincides perfectly with the projected late 2011 release date.

The Windows 8 beta should be released around June 2011 and the final release might even hit the stores at the same time that Windows 7 was released, which was October.

The Internet Explorer 9 product cycle confirms the findings. Microsoft has announced a beta release of Internet Explorer 9 for August 2010. This would be the same time that Forum III will be held, which is exactly four months after Forum II.

The chart may be a bit off since Windows Live Wave 4 was released in June. It could be that Microsoft has projected the Forum III conference for June / July instead.

Could also be that the chart is not 100% accurate and it can happen that development cycles need to be shifted, especially if major issues are encountered during development.

Still, we are pretty sure that Microsoft will release the beta of Windows 8 in or around June 2011 and the final release of the operating system in or around October 2011.

TV5’s Willing Willie star Willie Revillame, and his co-host, Valenzuela councilor Shalani Soledad were spotted at the New Year’s Eve Party of Discovery Shores in Boracay around 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2011, just after the resort’s fireworks show ended. They arrived at the resort together with a group that included Chavit Singson, actor John Estrada and girlfriend Priscilla Meirelles and were seen saying hello to actor Richard Gutierrez, who is a guest at the hotel. The group stayed awhile to have drinks.

Reports say that Revillame, 49, and Soledad, 30, along with several other people arrived in Boracay on December 30 aboard Revillame’s yacht, the M/Y Wow Cruiser, which is anchored just off the beach next to Singson’s yacht.

A PEP.ph report dated December 8 confirmed that Revillame is “courting” Soledad, but that they were “not an item yet” as of that time. The breakup of Soledad and President Noynoy Aquino was said to have been confirmed in early October.

Falling into the cycle of repetitive “date nights” that play out like old reruns is an easy trap to fall into as a couple. But recent research on how the brain changes when you’re in love suggests that adding novelty to your date nights helps keep both of you feeling the same excitement you did when you first fell for each other. “When we fall in love, one part of the brain that becomes activated is the area that produces dopamine, a natural stimulant that produces feelings of excitement, craving, motivation and elation,” says Dr. Helen Fisher, author of Why Him? Brain scans of couples that have recently fallen in love show that the reward systems where dopamine is produced are activated. Nicest Canadian couple in world dole out lottery winnings

A retired Canadian couple who won $11.3 million in the lottery in July have already given it (almost) all away.

“What you’ve never had, you never miss,” 78-year-old Violet Large explained to a local reporter.

She was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer when the couple realized they’d won the jackpot in July.

“That money that we won was nothing,” her tearful husband, Allen, told Patricia Brooks Arenburg of the Nova Scotia Chronicle Herald. “We have each other.”

The money was a “headache,” they told the paper–mainly, it brought anxiety over the prospect that “crooked people” might take advantage of them. Several people called them out of the blue to ask for money when the news first broke that they’d won the jackpot. So they began an $11 million donation spree to get rid of it and help others, the Chronicle Herald reports:

 

They took care of family first and then began delivering donations to the two pages’ worth of groups they had decided on, including the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, hospitals in Truro and Halifax, where Violet underwent her cancer treatment, and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes. The list goes on and on.

Violet told the Canadian Press that they retained about 2 percent of the money for a rainy day.

“It made us feel good,” Violet told the Chronicle Herald. “And there’s so much good being done with that money.”

The Nova Scotia couple have been married more than 35 years and quietly saved up the money that Allen made as a welder and Violet made in retail before retiring.

“We haven’t spent one cent on ourselves because we’ve been too busy getting everything looked after and with my health, I have to wait to get my health back to get the energy to do anything,” Violet told the National Post. “We’re not travelers anyway. We live in the country and we’re proud of it. Money can’t buy you health or happiness.”

Now their neighborhood is abuzz over their good deeds.

“People who know them just know that’s the type of people they are—they’re just happy to have each other,” local restaurant owner Lori Hingley told the Canadian Press.

The prize was in Canada dollars (roughly equal to U.S. dollars at current exchange rates).

Time Traveler appears in 1928 film

A 1928 film clip from a Charlie Chaplin movie premier that appears to show a woman talking on a cell phone is sparking debate and controversy.

The short film, some 80 years old, is footage that was shot for Charlie Chaplin’s film “The Circus.”

The film shows people attending the 1928 premiere of the movie at the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

In the footage, a woman dressed in black with a hat hiding most of her face is seen with what can only be described as a mobile phone device, talking as she walks alone.

The footage was studied and posted on YouTube by a man in Belfast named George Clarke.

Since then, the video has gone viral with thousands of people making comments and giving their opinion about what the woman is holding and what she is doing as she walks and talks.

Clarke believes the woman could be a time-traveler who is using technology 81 years in the future. Others say she is using a 1920’s era hearing aide. There are hundreds of other opinions some agreeing with Clarke, others calling the film a fake.

Roach: No worry, Manny will be ready By Abac Cordero (The Philippine Star) .   Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao catches trainer Freddie Roach with an errant elbow to the face during their workout at the Shape-Up gym in Baguio    BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – You’ve got to take his word when Freddie Roach says there’s no need to worry.  “We need a little more focus, but I think overall we’re doing okay,” said the trainer of all trainers after Bob Arum sounded the alarm the other day while watching Manny Pacquiao train. Arum said he didn’t see the speed in Pacquiao, that blinding speed he would need to stun, overwhelm and get rid of Antonio Margarito on Nov. 13 in Texas, after a couple of workouts here. “If the fight happened on Saturday Margarito would win the fight,” was the quote of the day from Arum. Roach yesterday admitted that Pacquiao is far from his best but that things can be worked out in the next couple of weeks. “He’s a hundred percent with the mitts but fifty percent in sparring,” he said. Pacquiao seemed to have taken the first four weeks of training lightly, skipping roadwork and gym workouts like he’d never done before. Twice on weekends, he left this City of Pines for Manila. Pacquiao also had too much of basketball early in the camp that it was hard to tell if he was training for a world title fight or a basketball tournament. Or too much of Congress. Roach, however, said it was all right for Pacquiao to play basketball because the deal was that the 31-year-old champion, would quit it four weeks before the fight. Saturday evening Pacquiao spent a couple of hours rehearsing his songs for the after-fight concert on Nov. 13, and the other night he was at a late dinner with Arum and friends. The stormy weather up here, with howling winds and non-stop rains since Monday, forced Pacquiao to once again skip his roadwork yesterday, but went to the gym early to spar. Somehow, Roach looks satisfied. “We’ve had good and bad days, but more good than bad lately, so it’s getting better and better. But we need get more focus. Started a little bit late than the usual,” said Roach. The four-time Trainer of the Year thinks the only way to do this is to get Pacquiao to his Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, and on Saturday evening they’d be boarding the plane to LA. According to plans, Pacquiao should head down to Manila after tomorrow’s workout, spar at the Elorde Gym on Thursday, train on Friday and spar one last time on Saturday. “I’m still pushing for sparring on Thursday and then go to L.A. on Thursday. But we haven’t work that out yet,” said Roach who may need to beg before the fighting congressman for that. Roach said the toughest weeks of this camp are coming. “This would be a big week for sparring. This week and next week. It would be the toughest two weeks coming up,” said Roach, who has plenty of reasons pushing for an earlier flight to LA. “With the weather and so forth, yes. And I have more sparring there, better sparring. No, not better, but more of the style I’ve been looking for,” he said. Mexicans Michael Medina and Glen Tapia have done a good job as sparring partners, but Roach is looking for some fresh meat because Pacquiao has this habit of getting too friendly with his sparring partners as the days go by. “There’s Abdullah, Kid Chocolate, who’s 21-and-0, Amir Khan, Vanes (Martirosyan). That’s plenty. We’ve sparred 36 rounds now. We’ll get about 30 rounds this week and 30 next week, and then we start tapering off,” Roach added. Roach was asked if he’s sticking to his prediction that Pacquiao would knock Margarito out early or late. “Yeah,” he said.
